> About Us > Midaye history

Midaye Somali Development Network was first founded in May 2002 as the Somali Mothers and Under Fives group, to serve mothers with young children.
The group of mothers along with the rest of the Somali community quickly realised their was a gaping hole in mainstream services being properly accessed and used to their full potential by the Somali community, services such as Education, NHS, Social Services, Housing and Social Security all of these government offices had fallen short in their duty to provide the basic needs of the Somali community.
The management committee acted quickly and developed the former Somali Under Fives Group to become the Midaye Somali Development Network, in November 2002 the organisation adopted their constitution and after much work obtained the organisation charity number 1098707 from the Charity Commission in July 2003.
Midaye today has solid community targeted projects and activities designed to improve the life of the ethnic minority community, in particular those most isolated and disadvantaged, the charity has multi-lingual staff and volunteers that support people of all ages and backgrounds.  We are committed to continuing to build relations and partners with other communities and mainstream services for the benefit of the community.
