Midaye Somali Development Network is engaged in addressing the issues faced by the Somali community and all other Black Minority and Ethnic (BME) communities, in particular supporting the most isolated and hard to reach members of our society who have the greatest needs. Midaye is a user-led charity, we provide services and activities throughout the week to support people of all ages and genders, with issues such as unemployment, health, education, economic deprivation, general inequalities, disadvantages and access issues suffered by the refugee and ethnic minority families.
Midaye is seeking to recruit Community Empowerment and Involvement Officer to support the charity with the delivery of a programme designed to tackle the lack of empowerment and severe unemployment suffered by the Somali speaking community.
The successful candidate must have knowledge of the issues facing the refugee and migrant communities and has the skills to develop a solid programme of skills and employment to enable people who are isolated and unable to engage with the employment sector to find appropriate opportunities. In addition you must have:
- Degree or equivalent professional qualification (e.g. QCG or vocational Advice and Guidance NVQ level 4) with minimum experience of 2 years;
- Proficiency in the fields of employment, recruitment and refugee support
- Experience of working with vulnerable individuals, especially people suffering from isolation and multitude of disadvantages
- Ability to Liaise with employers and organisations promoting and marketing potential clients;
- Able to provide advice and guidance on a one-to-one basis as well as holding focused group sessions;
- Knowledge The legislation, regulations, policies and procedures for employment, training and career development
The post holder must have track record of managing programmes; develop and manage a team of volunteers to work on the project; support the development of relationships across various sectors and business; be able to promote equal opportunities and professionalism inline with the mission of the organisation.
This project intends to make an impact to the issues suffered by the most disadvantaged members in our community while developing innovative methods of engagement and empowerment.
