The Building New Alliances to End FGM report is here! This excellent document has been produced as an outcome of the partnership between Midaye, the Children Services for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, and Westminster City Council, and the three maternity clinics at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital.
The partnership achieved remarkable success in reaching women who have been victims of FGM and engaging with them and their communities. The guide provides a detailed account of the constructive and compassionate model developed by the partnership to respond to FGM and the story of how it unfolded. We believe that this guide is an exceptionally powerful tool and could serve to provide many health practitioners, statutory service providers and community organisations with an effective approach to dealing with FGM and other deeply complex cultural matters. It is a very important document in the context of FGM in the UK and we believe it deserves the full attention of anyone who has or may potentially have to respond to a case of FGM.
We would like to encourage everyone to make full use of this resource and share it with whomever you think may benefit from it. We hope that our success in responding to FGM may be replicated, multiplied and improved on in the coming years until this abusive practice has been entirely eradicated.
Please feel free to contact Midaye Somali Development Network if you would like to engage with us further regarding this guide or to find out more about what we do and how we do it.
